Pictures of Texas Birds

I've wanted to get a shot like this one for a long time but getting close enough to fill the frame without disturbing the natural behavior has been very difficult. Even using a 400mm and 2x converter (800mm) you still have to be within several feet to get an image this close.

The birds at the East end of Galveston Island have become accustomed to the many people that visit the area and will let you approach them. This snowy egret posed for at least 30 minutes letting me shoot several rolls of film.
