Reliant Stadium
is the home of the Houston
Texans NFL football team,
driving along the South Loop it's hard to miss this massive structure, it
dwarfs the old Astrodome, not surprisingly since the Astrodome was built
below ground level while Reliant starts at ground level. The $449 million
steel and glass stadium is an architectural wonder almost as amazing now
as the astrodome was in it's day, a state-of-the-art facility with the
leagues first retractable roof is incredible to behold, taking only ten
minutes to open fully, revealing the blue Texas skies above.
Of the 69,500 seats, 44,000 are of
the sideline variety, lower level luxury suites are closer to the action
than in any other NFL stadium and nearly 90 feet closer to the playing
surface than at the Astrodome. The 166 suites accommodates from 16 to 22
people.
In 1996 the Texans played their
first season, and in Feb 2004 hosted Super Bowl XXXVIII. In the future you
can expert many more major events to be held in this amazing stadium,
including the 2011 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. |
