Golf Course Review - Alvin Golf and Country Club By George Hosek Hidden within the large oaks and pecan trees of Brazoria County lies a beautiful and challenging nine hole golf course called Alvin Golf and Country Club. Not only does Alvin Country Club offer an excellent inexpensive golf course, they have other amenities as well, including a pro shop, locker room with showers, banquet room, grill, pool, cart barns for private carts and a very friendly and helpful staff. If you play more than once a week you may be interested in their outstanding membership program. Alvin Golf and Country Club is the ideal golf course for the recreational golfer, at 3014 yards it's difficult enough to be a challenge but not so difficult you can't shoot a low score. There are two par 5's, four par 4's and three par 3's, guarded by water hazards, sand bunkers and lots of trees and some of the nicest greens you'll find. So pack-up the family and friends or
play by yourself, it doesn't matter once you've played at Alvin Golf and
Country Club you'll be hooked. |

Hole number one is a straight
away, 339 yard par 4 with a water hazard in front of the green and trees
to the left and right. Use a driver off the tee for maximum distance
leaving a short/medium pitch over the water to the green, if you stray to
the far right of the fairway on your second shot you may be able to avoid
the water. Hole number two is a 370 yard par 4, it is straight with trees on both sides, plus a lone tree that guards the right side of the fairway. There's a water hazard in front and to the middle left of the green. Hole number three is a tough 191 yard par 3. Watch out for a water hazard close to the tee box there are also a few trees on both sides of the fairway, a sand bunker guards the right side of the green. |
|
Hole number four is a 490 yard
par 5. Be careful, with trees on both sides of the fairway and water
hazards to the left and in front of the green its easy to get in
trouble on this hole. For a low score a straight, solid drive is
essential. Hole number five is a 425 yard par 4. Water hazards, trees and small hills to the left of the fairway, a sand bunker guards the right side of the green. Hole number six is a 399 par 4. A slight dogleg right makes being able to fade the ball from left to right a big help on this hole but be careful there is water to the left and trees to the right. |
|
Hole number seven is a 164 yard
par 3. If you think you may come up short try to keep the ball to the
right of the fairway, there is a water hazard to the left. Hole number 8 is a 497 par 5 dogleg right. This is the longest and toughest hole on the course, there are trees to the immediate right of the fairway so try and keep the ball center left to set up your second shot, some long hitters may be able to reach the green in two but most will have to lay up for their approach shot over the creek. A large bunker guards the front of the green. Hole number nine is a 139 yard par 3. A solid shot back over the creek will pay off on this short, straight finishing hole. |
